Reunion INvitation

B. Reed Henderson High School
Class of 1969 – 40th Reunion

Greetings, Class of 1969! This is your official invitation to our 40th reunion events.

It’s hard to believe it’s been 40 years; the time has certainly flown! This is your chance to catch up with old friends. Several people who have never attended a reunion say they intend to make it to this one, so I hope all of you will come to at least one of the planned events.

Here are the scheduled events:

Fri night (9/11/09) is the pub crawl (or stroll thru W.C. for those who prefer that description). Walk a few blocks, have a drink or 2, see who you meet! We have designated Spences CafĂ© (http://www.spencecaferestaurant.com/spence_window.html) as “home base” as a place to retreat to – if you get tired of walking around or don’t see anyone you know. Time: 8:00 - ?

Sat afternoon picnic (9/12/09) at Hoopes Park – 11:00 to 4:00: Cost is $5 to attend (to cover park and restroom rental). If you wish to partake of the picnic food, it will be another $5. Please note that the food is being provided by your classmates and the cost is to reimburse their expenses. Kick back and relax! Sorry, Borough park rules say no alcohol! Location of picnic at Hoopes Park: 700 Hoopes Park Ln, West Chester, PA 19380 (off W. Ashbridge St., which runs between Rt 100 and Rt 322 just behind the W.C. Country Club.

Sat. night (9/12/09) is the dinner dance at the Inn at Chester Springs (old Holiday Inn at Lionville) – 6:00 to 11:00. Hors d’oeuvres starting at 6:00; dinner at 7:00. Weather permitting, this will be held in the tent between the courtyard and the pool. Dinner is all you can eat buffet and we will have a DJ who promises to supply only good music. Dress: casual to as fancy as you want, just no shorts please. The cost per person is $65. Cash bar. The nice thing about the tent is that it affords a lot of space away from the noise/music if you wish to sit and talk with someone. The tent is located between the gazebo courtyard and the pool; both areas will be available to sit and talk away from the hubbub. The Inn is located on Rt. 100, north of Exton and south of the Rt. 100 turnpike exchange.

We have reserved a block of rooms at the Inn at a discount rate, so if you are from out of town (or just don’t want to drive home), please call the Inn at 610-363-1100 (http://www.innatchestersprings.com/) and remember to say you are with the Henderson Class of 69 Reunion.

I will be printing a directory of classmates and their info – if you attend, you will get a copy free. If you can’t attend and want a copy, cost is $5; just let me know.

A tour of the newly renovated Henderson High School can be arranged if enough folks are interested.

If you wish to update your entry and provide any info you like for inclusion in the directory, please enter it on the next page.

If you have any old photos you’d like to contribute, please let me know. You can scan and email them to me or, if you don’t have that capability, mail them to me and I PROMISE they will be returned to you. I would hate to lose my old photos, so be sure I will take good care of yours!

If you have any questions, please email me at gail@gregsteckel.com or call me at 717-361-7856 or cell 717-362-0642.

Hope to see you there!

Hi classmates from Henderson High Class of 1969! This is your spot for details on the upcoming 40th (oh my) reunion, set for 9/11 and 9/12/09.

Events are planned as follows:

Fri night (9/11) is the pub crawl (or stroll thru W.C. for those who prefer that description). Walk a few blocks, have a drink or 2, see who you meet! It was suggested that we name a 'home base' to gather at; Polly (Davis) Chalfant is working on that. Time? 8:00 until whenever.

Sat afternoon - 9/12 - picnic - location is Hoopes Park - it has the facilities (large pavillion, grills, shade trees, picnic tables) we need and is close to W.C. 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Finding a food provider has proved difficult and expensive, so many of us have agreed to supply the food. Anyone who would like to help? Any expenditures will be reimbursed. Please let me know and I will tell you what you can do to help out. If anyone wants to volunteer to bring game stuff like badminton or volleyball or ringtoss, etc, let me know (actually, Owen C. has volunteered for this). There is no electricity there, but I will be bringing a boom box for some background music. So far we have several volunteers, which is great! Cost to attend is $5 to cover park & bathroom rental. If you plan to eat, I estimate another flat $5, but remember that is an estimate at this point. Obviously, the more folks who attend, the lower the cost per person, since we can buy food in bulk once we have a head count.
Hoopes Park: located on Hoopes Park Ln, off W. Ashbridge, between 322 and High St., W.C.

Sat. night (9/12) is the dinner dance at the Inn at Chester Springs (old Holiday Inn at Lionville). Fingers crossed/weather permitting, will be held in the tent between the courtyard and the pool (i.e., lots of space to move and get away from the hubbub to talk) Hors d'oeuvres at 6:00; dinner (buffet) at 7:00. Dinner/dance cost is $65/each. Sorry, with today's prices, it is the best I could do. But it does mean an endless buffet! Cash bar. DJ promises to play only GOOD music. We have a block of rooms at a discount for those who have to travel - if you need to reserve a room, make sure you mention the Henderson Class of 69 Reunion when you make your reservation.

Please keep me updated if you change your email address. If possible, I will be sending your invitations via email to save on postage. You can print it out, fill it in, and send it to me with your $$. OR, you can save the file, fill it out and email it back to me, and follow up with your $$.

Dig into your old boxes and see if you have any good photos to share at the reunion. If you have the capability, scan the photo and email me the file (jpg, please). If not, send me the photo - I promise you'll get it back. Have received a few so far!
